Dubuque Daily Times, Friday, November 24, 1876, Dubuque, Iowa, Page: 8

The river business is about over for the season, and J. P. Farley will soon go into winter quarters. He has had a pretty lively summer of it, notwithstanding the talk about hard times. Freight and travel have been fully up to other late years. Several boats have been engaged in the trade, and during the season they have made 800 landings here, and towed about 800 barges averaging 250 tons. Mr. Farley has been agent here eight years, and will probably be for eight years more if he wants to.
