Another Gun Accident

The careless handling of firearms so frequently results in loss of limbs and other serious injuries or a loss of life, that every such accident is a new warning to men as well as boys. Yesterday, a son of Mrs. Whelan, who lives on Eighth Street, near Bluff, was passing over the farm of Mr. J. Duncan, north of Linwood Cemetery, and, on climbing a fence, pulled his loaded gun after him, by which carelessness it was discharged. The contents passing through one of his arms, badly fracturing the bone a few inches below the shoulder, but fortunately not injuring the larger blood vessel Tt is thought that the arm might be saved. He soon had the surgical aid of Drs. Watson and Fowler, and received the benefit of their skill. The boy is only thirteen or fourteen years old. This ought surely to serve as a caution to all men and boys who handle pistols and guns as certainly as many of them do.
