Thursday, February 23, 1860, Independence Conservative (Independence, Iowa), Volume: 5, Issue: 28, Page: 2

Ambrose J. Meeker, near Table Mound, in Dubuque County, has an orchard of apple trees, which he planted in 1812, and has produced a bountiful supply of the best apples for several years past. From one tree that commenced bearing in ’52, he has already gathered near 100 bushels of excellent winter apples. Beginning with only 15 apples the first year, it has rapidly increased in productiveness till in ’57, it yielded the astonishing quantity of 23 bushels. Mr. M. says he knows nothing about “bearing years” in distinction from other years, for his trees all produce bountiful every year.
