Pardon for Michael Kerwin - 1897

Davenport Daily Republican - Apr 1, 1897

Clerk Hayes of Dubuque, yesterday received from Gov. Drake a pardon for Michael Kerwin, sentenced in March, 1894, to imprisonment for six and one half years for the crime of manslaughter. He stabbed a man named John Maar during a fight at Twin Springs. The pardon was granted on the strength of a petition signed by the County Attorney, Clerk Treasurer, and ex-recorder, the trial jurors, Mayor, Marshall and many others, and was given on the condition that Kerwin refrain from drinking or frequenting saloons.
