George Moser enlisted August 22, 1862, and was mustered into Company I the next day. The regiment was mustered in on September 9th and left for war on the 16th. It did not have "twelve different engagements." Of those it did have, George's military records on file with the National Archives indicate he participated in the May 1, 1863, Battle of Port Gibson; he and others were present but did not participate in the May 16th Battle of Champion Hill (having been held in reserve by General McClernand);he participated in the May 17th assault at the Big Black River; and he participated and was slightly wounded in the May 22nd assault at Vicksburg. Other than those three "engagements," he was present during the siege of Vicksburg and during the Mobile Campaign in the spring of 1865.
