John Joseph Ottele, 86

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Milford at 10:30 for John Joseph Ottele, who passed away on April 3, 2002, in Redwood City, Calif., from complications of surgery. Father Grendler will be officiating. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Milford.

John was born on the family farm four miles east of Arnolds Park. He graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1931 at the age of fifteen. He then started farming with his father and brother. He was an avid baseball player and played with his cousins, the Sanders' boys, in many leagues in the local area for 20 years.

John married Dorothy Owens from rural Lake Park on June 20, 1939. They farmed south of Jackson, Minn., until they moved to Spirit Lake in 1962. In 1967, they moved to Winfield, 111. After Dorothy's death in 1994, John retired and moved back to Okoboji. John enjoyed gardening, morning coffee at the Buy Rite in Milford, lunch at Dinner Date in Spirit Lake, driving his car each year to California, and watching his grandsons at their athletic events.

Survivors include his three daughters: Jacquelyn Parakinen of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Nettie Willey of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Joanne Stockdale of Spirit Lake; and two grandsons, Morgan and Owen Stockdale.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy: his brothers: Loyd and Harold, and his loving nephew, Chuck Ottele.
