ROBERT S. HERBERT

Robert S. Herbert passed away August 20, 1975 at the Lake Park Care Center where he had been a resident for 17 months.

Bob was born April 4, 1897, at Atlantic, Iowa, to John S. and Cora Butler Herbert. He attended school near Atlantic. On July 2, 1925, he was united in marriage to Hazel Miles of Kirkman, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Robert of Lake Park and Donna Greenwood of Des Moines, Iowa.

The family farmed near Mitchell, S. D. for two years and then moved to the farm west of Lake Park where they farmed until 1963 when the moved to their present home in Lake Park. Bob was a highly respected member of the community and numbered his friends by all who knew him. He will be missed.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the I. O. O. F. Silver Park Lodge No. 616 of Lake Park.

Funeral services were held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., August 23, 1975, at the Lake Park United Methodist Church with Rev. W. Michael Biklen officiating. The congregation sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Rock of Ages”, and Ronald Graham sang, “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder”, accompanied by Mrs. Ronald Graham. Pallbearers were Allen Arnold, Harold Bahl, Dale Burnside, Rodney Graham, Les Groft, and Harlen Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Sally of Lake Park; daughter, Donna and son-in-law, Ron Greenwood of Des Moines; grandchildren Jared Herbert of Lake Park, Pam Herbert Hansen of Minneapolis, Jan Herbert of Cedar Falls, Sharon Greenwood Kinton of Nashville, Tennessee, Ronna Greenwood of Ames, and Debra Greenwood of Des Moines; one great grandson Paul Kinton; one brother, H. C. Herbert of Atlantic; and one sister, Mrs. Eva Kuehl of Atlantic; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and six sisters.
