Eldon Prugh Rites Tuesday

The body of Pvt. Eldon Prugh, 22, will be buried with graveside military rites Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Aspen Grove cemetery. Rev. Glenn Sawdon, pastor of Christ Episcopal church, will officiate. Military services will be in charge of the American Legion. The body will arrive in Burlington Monday afternoon and be taken to Prugh's chapel. Due to illness in the family, only committal services to which friends are invited, will be held, a member of the family said. Prugh was killed in action near Drove, Germany, March 1, 1945. He was serving as radio operator and gunner with the 19th tank battalion of the 9th armored division. He was inducted in June, 1944., and was a graduate of the radio operator school at Ft. Knox, Ky. He went overseas in Dec. 1944. He was born in Burlington, Oct. 4, 1922, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norval Prugh, was a graduate of Burlington high school and had attended Burlington junior college for a year before entering service. Well known in riding circles, he raised and trained horses on a small acreage south of Burlington and had served as secretary of the Des Moines County Riding club. He was a member of Christ Episcopal church. Surviving are his parents; 2 sisters, Mrs. Robert Ahrold and Sherry Prugh; and one brother, Burton Prugh, all of Burlington; one niece and 3 nephews. Pallbearers will be Dr. George Pearson, Fred Dhn, Glen Pence, Dr. W. H. Chapman, Edward Gnahn and Ted Thompson. (Hawk-Eye Gazette, Burlington, IA, Saturday, Nov. 29, 1947, p. 2, Col. 3)
