New London (IA) -- Funeral services for Leroy Thomas, 67, of New London, will be at 10:30 Wednesday morning at the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church here with the Reverend W. O. Talley officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove cemetery under the direction of the Elliot-Lunning Funeral Home.

Mr. Thomas was found dead at his home Sunday morning of what authorities said was an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The son of David and Jesse Kuhlenbeck Thomas, he was born November 20, 1902, in Des Moines County, and had been a life resident here.

On January 26, 1922, he married the former Leatha Vandermark. She preceded him in death in 1950. He married Laura Tucker on August 20, 1955, in Burlington.

He was a member of the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife, at home: six sons, Donald and Charles, both of New London; Larry, of Hutchinson; Jack, of Marshalltown; David, Lockridge: and Marion, Letts: four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Welker, Muscatine; Mrs. Geneva Connor, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Verla Canfield, Burlington; and Mrs. Mary Alice Martin, of West Point; one brother, Leo, of Sperry; twin sisters, Mrs. Gladys Miller and Mrs. Edith Miller, both of New London; 30 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a visitation from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
