Sheila Mae Schnedler

Sheila Mae Schnedler, 74, of Sperry, IA peacefully passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Mediapolis is caring for the family. Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com

Born on August 17, 1950, she was the daughter of Louis and Barbara Granaman.

She was a 1968 graduate of Mediapolis High School, and on June 7, 1969 she married her best friend and love of her life, Samuel Schnedler. Together they raised their two sons, Alex and Nathan, in rural Sperry on the family farm. Later in life they were blessed with three grandchildren.

Sheila had a strong love for horses, and had an amazing and natural talent with them. She competed in high school rodeos both locally and nationally, traveling from state to state with her parents to compete. She was such an excellent horseman, that she won the National High School Rodeo in 1967 in Elko, Nevada, and the following year in 1968 she was crowned the Fort Madison Rodeo Queen. Years later in 2006, she was inducted into the Iowa High School Rodeo Hall of Fame.

Sheila was an excellent cook, and her Christmas cookies were always some of the family’s favorites. She loved decorating for the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and always enjoyed hosting family get-togethers and dinners. Shopping for antiques was a favorite pastime, always looking for a unique treasure. She also loved watching her grandkids play sports and show livestock.

The outdoors was her favorite place to be, and gardening was her specialty. She had many beautiful flower gardens that she spent countless hours in, putting in so much hard work so that
everyone could enjoy them. A person could always count on Sheila giving helpful gardening tips if they ever found themselves needing some advice.

Sheila was a hardworking and dedicated person all of her life, always welcoming a challenge. Her family and the farm were most important to her, and that’s what made her the happiest. Many years spent there left her with countless memories of a life well-lived.

Sheila is survived by her husband of 56 years, Samuel Schnedler, her two sons; Alex (Tonya) Schnedler of Ft. Madison, and Nathan (Erin) Schnedler of Sperry, IA, and three grandchildren; Tayler, Haley, and Nile Schnedler.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
