Nancy Joan Kerr McElhinney

Nancy Joan McElhinney, age 83, of Morning Sun, died Thursday evening, February 21, 2019, at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.

The daughter of Maurice Scott Kerr, Sr. and Gladys Nancy Nichols Kerr, she was born on June 3, 1935 at Morning Sun. She married Harold McElhinney on June 20, 1953 in Morning Sun. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2004.
Nancy graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1952. She worked as a bookkeeper for Delzell Motors and then as the secretary for the Morning Sun School.

She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Morning Sun where she was involved with the Clothes Closet. She was also a member of the Lioness Club, had been a Cub Scout Leader, involved with the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and had served on the school board. She enjoyed camping with Harold.

Her family includes three sons, Kirk and Terri McElhinney of Johnson City, Texas, Bruce and Sharon McElhinney of Davenport, and Brent and Erika McElhinney of Morning Sun; five grandchildren, Kara McElhinney, Lindsay and Tim Rasmussen, Kyle and Erin McElhinney, Taryn and Corey Owens, and Thayne McElhinney; two great granddaughters, Avalon and Emelia McElhinney; and a sister Juanita McMullin of Olathe, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and ten siblings.

The funeral ceremony for Nancy McElhinney will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Benge and Pastor Rob Carleton officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery with a fellowship lunch to follow at the church.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Centenary United Methodist Church.
