Mediapolis girl killed

Mediapolis (IA) -- A six-year-old Mediapolis elementary school student returning home for classes Friday became Des Moines county's eighth traffic fatality after she darted into the path of a car driven by Ronnie Lynn Moler, 16, Mediapolis.

Suffering head injuries, Lynn Marie Siefken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald L. Siefken, Mediapolis, died at 6:50 p.m. Friday at University hospitals in Iowa City, where she was transferred from Burlington Memorial hospital. Terry Conrad, Des Moines county deputy sheriff, said that accident occurred on Northfield street, one block north of Main street, at approximately 2:15 p.m. when the child ran from behind a passing southbound school bus into the path of Moler's northbound car. No charges have been filed.

She was born February 28, 1967, the daughter of Gerald and Betty Honson Siefken, and was a member of St. Mary Catholic church, Dodgeville.

Surviving: The parents; two sisters, Lori and Loretta, and one brother, Randy, all at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Honson, Mediapolis, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Siefken, Sperry.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday, St. Mary Catholic church, Father Thomas Reilman; St. Mary Catholic cemetery. Fry Chapel in Mediapolis is in charge.

A memorial has been established.
