Larry Hetrick

Larry James Hetrick, age 79, passed away on October 31, 2018, in Weslaco, TX.

He was born on December 12, 1938, in Burlington, IA, to Earman and Mary (Rettig) Hetrick. Larry graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1956.

He married Elizabeth (Betty) L Hall on June 11, 1960, in Burlington, IA, and was very proud of their 58 years together. They lived for many years in Mediapolis, IA, where he held several positions, most notably, owner of Hetrick’s Alignment Service, printer at Mediapolis New Era, and driver/maintenance at Standard of Beaverdale. Moving to Selma, AL, in 1983, he retired from the maintenance department at ALLOCK.

After retirement, Larry and Betty traveled the US in their fifth wheel for many years and celebrated all of the sights and places they visited. Sometimes staying only a few days in one place and other times, a month or two. He was especially excited to take the truck and trailer through Canada and Alaska. After the traveling got to be a little too much, they settled in Siesta Village in Weslaco, TX.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. Growing up on the Mississippi River near Carman, IL, it was there he learned his love of fishing and hunting and boating. He also loved to tell his stories about these adventures, which his family is sure they are all true tales.

Per his wishes, there will be no formal services and cremation has been ordered. A family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Heavenly Grace, Weslaco, is in charge of his final wishes.

Larry is survived by, his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Hetrick, Weslaco, TX, son, Stanley Hetrick, Weslaco, TX, daughters Cathy Dickey (Stephen Curtis) of Melbourne, FL and Shelly Wagler (Brian Fox) of Mediapolis, IA. Four grandchildren, Dathan (Heather) Luth, Breanna (Travis) Curtis, Cassie Wagler (Tanner) Hollingsworth and Miles (Jenna) Wagler. Four great grandchildren, Alex, Rylee, Mila, and Olivia, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and step mother, Polly Hetrick, one sister Rose Christensen, three brothers in law, one sister in law and two grandsons, Chad Luth and Brandt Dickey.0.0
