Erma Licko

Erma Elaine Licko, age 95, of Mediapolis, died Friday morning, June 8, 2018, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis.

The daughter of Floyd and Gertrude Jones Breder, she was born on March 29, 1923 in Burlington. Erma married Steve Licko on September 6, 1942 in Mediapolis. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2003.

Erma graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1940. She attended Augustana College for two years, where she sang in the Augustana Choir.

She enjoyed and was an active farm wife with Steve and later in life she took nursing and worked as an LPN in Burlington.

She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the choir director, the First United Presbyterian Church where she was active with the Young at Heart Group, and more recently the Cornerstone Community Church all of Mediapolis. She was also a member of the Kings Daughters and had worked with the 4H program in early years. She was a vocalist for several years for weddings and then later for funerals.

Erma was a big Cubs fan and enjoyed a lot of sports. She also had enjoyed several winters in Tucson.

Erma and Steve had a family of four sons, Robert Licko and Carol Robertson of Ft. Collins, Colorado, David and Elaine Licko of Denver, Colorado, Tim and Candace Licko of Mediapolis, Mick (deceased) and Judy Licko of Mediapolis; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and a great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve; a son, Mick; and two brothers, Howard and Paul Breder.

The funeral ceremony for Erma Licko will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Cornerstone Community Church in Mediapolis with Pastor Jeff King officiating. Burial will follow at the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Mediapolis Public Library and the Mediapolis Community Theatre.
