Rodney Clinton Wallman

Rodney Clinton Wallman, 81, Yarmouth, died Friday, March 30, 2018 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. He was born March 18, 1937 in Burlington, to Harold and Oma Mason Wallman. On October 23, 1955, he married Betty Carol Wagler at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Grove and he was of the Presbyterian faith. He graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1954, and enjoyed playing basketball for independent teams and also played semi-pro baseball for the Morning Sun team. Mr. Wallman was a lifetime farmer who loved his quail habitat; tractor-pulled all around the Midwest for 23 years and achieved his pilot's license at the age of 15, continuing to fly until his eyesight failed him. He excelled at trap shooting, winning several state and local events. In later years, with his health declining, he enjoyed driving his orange Kubota; having coffee with friends; and Sunday morning breakfast at "Shiner's". He also enjoyed stock car racing, but time with his great-grandson Russell was most precious to him. He was a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association; Burlington Chapter 700 of the Experimental Aircraft Association; Amateur Trapper's Association; Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge; and a longtime member of Iowa Cattleman's Associations and Corn and Soybean Associations.

Survivors include his wife of Yarmouth; children, Douglas (Connie) Wallman and Darla (Rob) Chaddock, both of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Chase and Emily; great-grandson, Russell; one brother, Barry (Carol) Wallman of Florida; adopted sister, Sharon; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one grandson, Rodney Wayne Wallman.

The funeral service for Rodney Wallman will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Jeff Duffy officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with the family present to receive friends from noon until the time of the service. Burial will follow the service at Trinity Cemetery, Mt. Union. Memorials have been established for Mediapolis Clay Commanders; Yarmouth Fire Department and Mediapolis Fire Department.
