Leo Edward Schulte, 89, of Mediapolis, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab Center in Mediapolis.

Born Feb. 9, 1928, at home in Sperry, he was the son of Theodore and Lillian McLaughlin Schulte. In 1950, he married Doris June Korf in Dodgeville.
Mr. Schulte was a lifelong farmer and also was co-owner of the Wapello Livestock Auction for 13 years. He was a 1945 graduate of Sperry High School. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Japan.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville. He served on the Mediapolis City Council and coached Little League baseball. He loved to garden and share his produce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the family cabin.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dennis Schulte, Jim Schulte and Richard Schulte; one daughter, Joan Honson; seven grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Schulte; and one sister, Irene Wasson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral Mass for Mr. Schulte will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville with the Rev. Marty Goetz as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, Dodgeville.

Memorials have been established for Mediapolis Ambulance Service and St. Mary’s Church.
