Alvin “Al” Robert Schneiderman, 77, of Burlington died at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.

Born December 26, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Morris and Lillian Katz Schneiderman. On July 11, 1954 he married Evelyn Levine in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She died May 26, 1974. On December 6, 1974 he married Mary Lou Juergens Spear in Danville.

Mr. Schneiderman was a January 1947 graduate of the Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades in New York City. He then entered the Navy and after his discharge, the Army recalled him during the Korean Conflict to design and decorate service clubs in France and Germany. He later worked as operations manager at Lehigh Leopold for 47 years.

Mr. Schneiderman was a fan of John Wayne and watched his movie, “In Harms Way” many times especially enjoying the flying scenes most particularly the USA FPBY-2. He was a Chicago Cubs and Bulls fan, an avid Hawkeye football and basketball fan and enjoyed Big Band Era songs, and puttering in the garage and garden. He worked with carpentry and loved designing and building things. He was a member of Hamilton- Walters American Legion Post 52.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Spear Schneiderman of Burlington; three daughters, Robin Schneiderman of Burlington, Janet (Steve) Holtman of Cedar Rapids, and Julie (Jim) Kniffen of Burlington; three sons, Bart (Suzanne) Schneiderman of West Burlington, Craig (Sue) Spear of Burlington, and Scott (Tina) Spear of Scottsdale, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren, Josh, Jarrod, Janelle, and Adam Schneiderman, Laura Cain and Dan Holtman, Tammy Morris and Emilee Minkalis, Brandon, Trevor and Jenna Kniffen, Natalie and Nathan Spear; five great grandchildren, Wyatt and Steve Cain, Taylor, Blaise, and Brennon Morris.

His first wife and parents preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial to the donor’s choice of charitable organization has been established.
