Rebecca Ilene Mehaffy, 64, of Burlington, died at 8:30 AM Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at her home.
Born September 14, 1952, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Lloyd W. and Marcelle Ilene Riemann Brown. On April 14, 1974, she married Steve Mehaffy in Mediapolis.  They later divorced.
Becky worked at Winegard Co. for about six years, operated a home daycare, and was a teacher for the Burlington School District for twelve years.
She was a 1970 graduate of Mediapolis High School. She received her teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College. 

She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Burlington Transplant Organization.  She volunteered at Mediapolis Schools. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.  She was a wonderful and devoted Bammo and Grandma Choo Choo.  She was always there for people.

Survivors include one daughter, Jill (Eric) Mehaffy-Nalley of Sperry; one son, Nathan (Laura) Mehaffy of Danville; five grandchildren, Allison, Henry, Lily, Dane, Marin; two sisters, Roberta (Terry) Barngrover and Renee (David) Gerling, both of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, May 15, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Mehaffy will be 11:00 AM Monday, May 15, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Vance officiating.   A time of food and fellowship will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene following the service.  Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. 

Memorials have been established to Des Moines County Humane Society and Iowa City Transplant Association.
