M.A. Whisler
Montana A. Whisler, 89, former justice of the peace in Burlington, died at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, at Burlington hospital, following a brief illness.
He was elected a justice of the peace in 1939 and served for nearly 10 years until the municipal court was established here. In 1950, he was an unsuccessful candidate for clerk of municipal court.
Born in Cedar county, Nov. 27, 1867, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Whisler. He was married Nov. 17, 1896, at Atwater, Minn., to Helma Larson. Whisler was a Burlington resident for the past 33 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian church and Des Moines Lodge No. 1, Masonic Order.
Surviving are a daughter, Marjorie M. Whisler, at home; three nieces, and one nephew.
Services and burial will be at Atwater, Minn. The family will receive friends at Prugh's chapel from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
The body will be sent to Atwater Friday night.
Last rites will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holm Brothers funeral home, Atwater.
