Mrs. Ethel Baxter, formerly of 528 South Garfield, died Sunday, November 14, at Maple Crest nursing home.

Death, which followed an extended illness, came one day before her 88th birthday anniversary.

She was born November 15, 1883, in Stockton on Trees, England, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gilleard. In May 1901, she married Cortes A. Baxter in Des Moines county.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist church and its WSCS.

Surviving: One son, C. Jewell (Joe) Baxter, Burlington; three daughters, Mrs. Eva Tripp and Mrs. Billye Hines, both of Burlington, Mrs. Coralie Teel, Tacoma, Washington; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sheagren funeral home; Reverend Henry T. Hackman; Aspen Grove cemetery. A memorial has been established at the church.
