Carol Eleanor French, 86, of Burlington, Iowa died at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Burlington Care Center.

Born May 5, 1917, in Osceola, Nebraska, she was the daughter of James Floyd and Susan Tyler Duncan. On June 14, 1940, she married Arthur R. French in Nebraska City, Iowa. He died May 5, 1978.

Mrs. French was a homemaker.

She was a graduate of Jackson High School in Lincoln, Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan University.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served on several committees and was a former Deaconess and Sunday school teacher.

She was a member of P-Chapter of PEO, the League of Women Voters, Art Guild of Burlington Inc. and the Civic Music Association.

She was a former volunteer for the American Red Cross, Community Chest and Mayoral committees.

Survivors include a son, James Robert French, and a daughter, Susan Diane Satler, both of Burlington; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, three brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to time of service.

The funeral for Mrs. French will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church, Burligton Library Building Fund and Crapo Park.
