George Howard Houlton, 85, of Danville, formerly of Macomb, IL, died at 12:03 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 11, 1929, in Bardolph, IL, he was the son of Charles Frank and Lucille Allard Houlton. On April 19, 1953, he married Nina Delores Poland in Roseville, IL. She died May 26, 2006.

George worked as a machinist for NTN Bower Rollerbearing company in Macomb for 25 years retiring in 1992.

He graduated from Western Academy in Macomb, IL. He served in the U.S. Army with the 16th Infantry Division stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk.

Survivors include one son, George (Kathy) Houlton of Burlington; one granddaughter, Jessica (Matt) Moore of Des Moines; two great-granddaughters, Karrigan Moore and Sinclaire Moore; two brothers, Fred (Virginia) Houlton of Rock Island, IL and Louis Anders of Orangeville, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, and he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, October 6, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends.

The memorial service for Mr. Houlton will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 6, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Simeon Counterman officiating and full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be in Roseville Township Cemetery Roseville, IL at a later date.

Memorials have been established to Calvary Baptist Church, Great River Hospice and Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
