Merle Davis, 77, of Burlington, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 607 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 1996, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
Born July 17, 1919, in Farson, he was the son of James Wesley and Nora Belle Northup Davis. On June 2, 1941, he married Virginia Lucille Cantrell in Lancaster, Mo.
Mr. Davis was a World War II Army veteran. He worked 30 years at John Morrell Company in Ottumwa and 11 years in maintenance at J.I. Case Corp. in Burlington, until he retired in 1984.
He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and VFW Post 10102.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Duane Davis of Kingston, Danny Dwight Davis and Steven Eugene Davis, both of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one son and two brothers.
Visitation will be after noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 830 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Davis will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery will full military honors by VFW Post 10102.
A memorial has been established for Riverside Baptist Church.
