Mrs. Mary Joan Anliker, 84, of Burlington died at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at Blair House in Burlington.
Born October 7, 1929 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Herbert Gustave and Esther Marie Caroline (Dahlin) Swanson. On December 26, 1951 she married Dr. Dale L. Anliker in Burlington. He preceded her in death on April 15, 1998.
Mrs. Anliker was a Burlington High School and Moline Lutheran Nurses School graduate. She worked with her husband as nurse and office manager for 10 years, retiring in 1998.
Mrs. Anliker was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church, Methodist Women - Deborah Circle and a former member of Jr. Women's Club. She also sang in her church choir. She enjoyed reading, going to auctions and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. For many years she cared for her daughter, Dawn.
Survivors include three daughters, Stephanie (Roger) Olson of Elma, Washington, Sonja (Andrew) Hollan of Houston, Texas and Dawn Anliker of Burlington; one son, Bruce (Bobbie) Anliker of Graham, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Amy (Ben) Merchant of Grand Island, Nebraska, Sara (Frank) Newburn of Bloomington, Illinois, John (Karen) Olson of Nehalem, Oregon and Kerstin Hollan of Houston, Texas, Melony McCullock and Bailey McCullock; seven great grandchildren, Truitt Merchant, Zander Merchant, Christian Newburn, Jensen Newburn, Owen Olson, Clark Olson and Nora Olson; two nephews, Kirk Beckman or Burlington and Randy Beckman of Hawaii; and three cousins, Ruth Danniel of Burlington, Jane (David) Stallsworth of Colorado and Darrell (Donna) Dahlin of Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 5th, at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Mrs. Anliker will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6th, at West Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Roger Olson and the Rev. Dave Bracht-Wagner officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Hope Haven and West Hill United Methodist Church.
