Mr. Cecil Raymond Lowe, 79, of Burlington died at 5:45 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014, at his home.
Born January 25, 1935 in Burlington, he was the son of Cecil Ray and Vesta M. (Criner) Lowe. On September 20, 1953 he married J. Jo Ann Yargus in Hannibal, Missouri.
Mr. Lowe was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1953. He was a quality specialist at J.I. Case, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Lowe was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Masonic Patriot Lodge #650 A.F.&A.M., Des Moines Lodge #1 A.F.&A.M., Malta Lodge #318 A.F.&A.M., and York Rite Bodies - Iowa Chapter #1 R.A.M., where he was granted Grand High Priest in 2004. Zerubbabel Council R.&S.M. #22, St. Omer Commandry #15 K.T., and Burlington Chapter #545 O.E.S. He holds a Knight York Cross of Honor (K.Y.C.H.). He served in the United States Navy for two years and in the Navy Reserves for 18 years, achieving Chief Quartermaster. He retired after 20 years of service.
He was an avid golfer and was very proud of hitting a hole in one at the Flint Hills Golf Course. He also enjoyed bowling and was an animal lover.
Survivors include his wife, J. Jo Ann Lowe of Burlington; three sons, Mitchell Lowe, Craig Lowe and Eric (Nancy) Lowe all of Burlington; one daughter, April (Ed) Budzyn of Burlington; three sisters, Delores A. Lowe of Burlington, Jeannine E. Yakle of Cape Coral, Florida, and Virginia M. Williams of Dubuque, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m., Thursday August 28th, at Lunning Chapel.
Masonic Rites will be held at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 28th, at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Cecil will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 29th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Terry Vance officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard and the Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.
