Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Marion Hemphill, 83, of West Burlington died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at Blair House.
Born September 19, 1930 in Burlington, he was the son of Harvey Horace and Gladys Hemphill and step mother, Hazel Eubanks Hemphill. On August 19, 1949 he married Louise Ann Jennings in Morning Sun.
Mr. Hemphill was a carpenter for Carl A. Nelson Co. and worked in maintenance at Benner Tea Co. and Easter Food Co. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge since 1958.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Hemphill of West Burlington; one son, Randall Lee "Randy" (Mary Jane) Hemphill of West Burlington; four grandchildren, Christopher Shane Hemphill of Morning Sun, Mark Crooks of West Burlington, Jeff Crooks of St. Joseph, Michigan and Carolyn Sueppel of Iowa City; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Donna Smith of Burlington; one brother, Dennis Hemphill of Rhode Island; and one step sister, Mary Ellen Jackson of Mediapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Thursday, August 14th, at Lunning Chapel.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Mr. Hemphill will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 15th, in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Melisa Bracht-Wagner will officiate.
A luncheon will be served at the Eagles Lodge, 2727 Mt. Pleasant St., Burlington following the service.
