Mrs. Phyllis Jane Willey, 93, of Burlington, died at 6:23 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at Great River Hospice House West Burlington.
Born May 20, 1921 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl Oscar and Louisa (Smith) Enhorning. On May 26, 1946 she married Roland Wayne "Bud" Willey. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1981.
Mrs. Willey was a graduate of Burlington High School and Southeastern Community College with a licensed practical nurse's degree. She was employed at Burlington Medical Center and also did private duty nursing.
She was an active member of the First Congregational Church since 1946 where she served as Cradle Roll Superintendent and nursing attendant, past president of Women's Fellowship and Margaret Noirn Guild, co-chair of the Deaconate Board and a Church Council member.
Mrs. Willey was an active volunteer of the Des Moines County chapter of the American Red Cross since 1943, serving on the Board of Directors and Nursing Service Coordinator serving the community as a volunteer American Red Cross Nurse. She was also a member of R.S.V.P., BMC Seniors, Golden Rule #1 Circle of Des Moines County Kings Daughters where she also served as circle president and county treasurer.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia (Mrs. Harold) Miller, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant sister and brother and a brother, Clarence Enhorning.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. on Tuesday August 5th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
The funeral service for Mrs. Willey will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. James Francisco officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Easter Seal Society, Des Moines County American Red Cross Chapter or First Congregational Church.
