Luellen Mae ‘Lu’ Richenberger, age 53, of Morning Sun, died Monday, September 23, 2013, at her home. The daughter of Robert and Lura Tucker McDonald, she was born on December 22, 1959 in Burlington. She married Ron Richenberger on October 3, 1981 in Morning Sun.

Lu graduated from Burlington High School in 1978. She was an activity director and CNA at the Morning Sun Care Center and had worked in construction for Wilson Concrete and more recently at Grimm Bros. in Wapello.

She enjoyed painting, crocheting, crafting, and Cruise Night. Lu was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun, had served on the Morning Sun Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMT with the Morning Sun Community Ambulance Service. She had coached Little League Softball with her daughters.

Her family includes her husband, Ron; three daughters, Katie McDonald & Caleb Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Amie Jo & Adam Herrick of Morning Sun, and Ronda Gunnison & Leo Schinstock of West Point; three grandchildren, Cohen and Kinsley Gunnison and Conner Herrick; her mother, Lura McDonald of Burlington; a sister, Margaret & Gary Crabtree of LaGrange, Missouri; and two brothers, Bobby & Shirley McDonald of West Burlington and Mike McDonald of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert McDonald, Sr. and a brother, Mark McDonald.

The funeral ceremony for Lu Richenberger will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 27, 2013, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Morning Sun with Chaplain Jim Luder officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of HCI Hospice Care Services of Southeast Iowa, the Morning Sun Community Center, and the Presbyterian Food Pantry.
