Ralph J. Sherman, 76, of Sperry, died at 5:12 PM Thursday, July 10, 2014, at his home.
Born September 29, 1937, in Monmouth, IL, he was the son of Ralph and Isabelle Billups Sherman. On January 8, 1961, he married Wilma Deanne "Dee" Roasa at West Hill Methodist Church in Burlington.
Ralph worked for Sunshine Dairy from 1963 until 1974 as a delivery driver. He then went to work for J.I. Case Co. as a welder until his retirement in May of 1992. After retirement he went to work as a welder for GBE in Mediapolis.
He was a graduate of Media High School
He was an U.S. Army Veteran.
He was baptized at West Hill Methodist Church. He was a member of UAW Local 807 and National Riffle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, story telling, and taking care of the birds and his dogs, Sadie and Maggie.
Survivors include his wife, Dee three daughters, Lori (Les) Jannings of Burlington, Connie (Mike) Carter of West Burlington, IA, and Becky (Shawn) Hay New London; six grandchildren, Justin Hill, Alyssa Jannings, Maren Jannings, Jake Carter, Ashly Strausbaugh, Chey Hay; and two great-grandchildren, Arian Jannings, and Eva Walter; one brother, Archie (Carol) Sherman of Oneida, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, Debra Sherman, and two brothers, Jim and Roger Sherman.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, July 14, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory following the visitation.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Great River Klein Center.
