Dorothy "Dolly" Elizabeth Martenson, 82, of Burlington, died at 9:10 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born March 19, 1921, in Elizabeth, N.J., she was the daughter of John R. and Helen Elizabeth O'Brien Long. On January 17, 1942, she married Robert Ben Martenson in Minnieapois, Minn.

Mrs. Martenson was a homemaker and a craft artist.

She was a member of the SS. John and Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Rick Martenson of Bettendorf, Iowa; three daughters, Mary Mertens of Burlington, Kathleen Martenson of Sacremento, California, Margaret Martenson-Els of Bonn, Germany; seven grandchilden; five great-grand-children.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel between 7 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday and between 10 and 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

The funeral for Mrs. Martenson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating.

Burial will be in Sactred Heart Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and for the Burlington Public Library.
