Mary Elizabeth Hopewell, 63, of Burlington,died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehabilitation in Mediapolis.

Born March 6, 1940, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Robert Edward and Alice Bethel Mehaffy Walsh. On May 16, 1959, she married Mark Francis Hopewell in Burlington.

Mrs. Hopewell was a service representative for Qwest for more than 20 years.

She was a sturdent of the first graduating class at Notre Dame High School in 1958. She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, member of CWA Union and Pioneers Phone.

Survivors include her huband Mark of Burlington; one son, Mark J. Hopewell of Burlington; three daugthters, Deborah (Tom) Smith of Burlington, Elizabeth (Mike) Dideriksen of Burlingtonm, Amy (Scott) Tincher of Bloomington, Minn.; two brothers, Robert Walsh of Detroit, Mich., and David Walsh of Burlington; one sister, Joanne Beine of Bettendorf, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Shana Hoelscher, Jessica Dideriksen, Samantha Hopewell, Brittany Peterson, Trevor Smith, Caleb Smith, Kayla Tincher, Bobby Dideriksen, Nicole Tincher, Jennifer Tincher and Nathan Tincher.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joe Walsh.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday evening November 14, 2003.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Hopewell will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2003 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

Memorials have been established for Notre Dame High School, Local Parkinson Support, Praire Ridge Care & Rehabilitation and Great River Hospice.
