Harriette L. Olson, 89, of Burlington, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2003, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center in Burlington.
Born December 4, 1913, in Prescott, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Theodore R. and Martha Holst Wenzel. On June 11,1942, she married Orville A. Olson in Burlington. He died December 22, 1996.
Mrs. olson was a salesperson and worked in the office at Schramm's department store for 30 years. She also was employed by Midwest Biscuit, West Burlington Bank, Burlington Protestant Hospital and the IRC plant. She was raised in Prescott and Galesburg, Illinois, until her family moved to Burlington in 1925.
She attended Prospect Hill Grade School and Horace Mann Junior High before graduating from Burlington High School in 1932 and Burlington Junior College in 1934. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and the church's Margaret Nairn Circle. She enjoyed playing canasta and pinochle, traveling, and baking cookies.
Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne A. Brockway of Burlington; two sons, Richard W. Olson of Grosse Point Park, Michigan, and Thomas S.Olson of Chicago, six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two sisters and one brother.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church, Burlington, one hour prior to the time of service.
The funeral for Mrs. Olson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating. A private family burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a late date. The body will be cremated following the service.
Memorials have been established for the First Congregational Church and the Burlington Public library.
