Pearl I. Gabeline, 83, succumbed to a two-year illness in Burlington hospital at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Gabeline served on the Des Moines county board of social welfare for 22 years. He was a member of the Yarmouth school board for 25 years, and was a member of the Mediapolis town council for many years. He held official positions in the Methodist churches of Yarmouth and Mediapolis.

A native of Yarmouth, Mr. Gabeline was born July 9, 1884, the son of Enos and Kate Bazel Gabeline. He attended the Elliott Business college at Burlington.

Mr. Gabeline was married to Ola Beck at Yarmouth on September 14, 1910. He was a retired farmer.

Surviving: The wife; daughters Mrs. Betty Hutchcroft of Mediapolis and Mrs. Mary Walker of Burlington, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Mediapolis Methodist church Saturday at two, the Reverend Eldon Haworth, Trinity cemetery. The body is at the Fry Chapel. A memorial fund commemorating Mr. Gabeline has been established at the church.
