Elizabeth Mary "Libby" Lohmann Johnston, 95 of Calvin Manor Nursing Home in Des Moines, died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2003, at the nursing home.

Born March 4, 1907, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William Christopher and Elizabeth Mary Fiezmann Lohmann. On September 3, 1938 she married John Edward Johnston in Burlington. He died in August 1981.

Mrs. Johnston taught in Iowa high schools and was a teacher with the Burlington School System.

She was a graduate of State University of Iowa. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church and its Miriam Circle, a lifetime member of Iowa State Education Association, Abidah Circle of King's Daughters, past charter member of Bel Canto Chorale, the Des Moies County Historical Society and Friends of the Library.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Johnston Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Quandt, both of Des Moines; two granddaughters, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will begin after noon Monday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The funeral for Mrs. Johnston will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Stark officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church and Burlington Public Library.
