Death of Mr. Charles Hendrie, a Former Citizen

Mr. Charles Hendrie, whose serious illness from paralysis was noticed some months ago, died at Denver, Colorado, on Monday. The stroke came upon him while in Council Bluffs and he was removed by his relatives to the mountains in the hopes of benefiting him. He passed peacefully away surrounded by friends and relatives.

Mr. Hendrie was born in Connecticut, but came to Burlington in 1842 remaining here until 1868 when he removed to the West. He built, owned and operated the foundry which formerly covered the ground now occupied by the union depot. He was one of Burlington’s prominent men until business reverses deprived him of most of his means in 1869, a blow from which he never recovered. He was twice married, his second wife, Miss Josephine Lorraine, dying in Burlington some years since. The surviving family comprises on daughter and three sons, residing in Denver and New York. The funeral will be held to-morrow morning at ten o’clock from the residence of Mr. Thomas hedge, and will be without doubt be largely attended.
