She was a 1953 graduate of Luana High School and was active in 4-H, basketball, played clarinet in the band, and sang in the chorus. Joanne attended Luther College for two years and taught for 37 years in Elkader, Fayette and Manchester School Districts. While teaching she was able to complete her education, graduating from Upper Iowa University in 1970. On July 18, 1959, Joanne married Milt L. Kramer from Elkader. Together they had two daughters, Kerry Jo and Jill Ellen. Joanne retired from teaching in 1997. She remained active with golfing, photography, substitute teaching, quilting at the church, playing bridge, painting rocks, thread crocheting, and of course baking cinnamon rolls, cookies and biscotti until PSP robbed her abilities starting in 2015. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Doerring; and brothers, Raymond, Robert, and Keith. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Milt: daughters, Kerry (Kirk) Johnson of Decorah, Iowa and Jill (Mark) Davidson of Onalaska, Wisconsin; sisters, Edythe (Paul) Scheidt of Chesterfield, Missouri, Nancy Beguin of Onalaska, Sally (Larry) Williams of Waverly, Iowa.
