Killed by the Cars on the Calmar and Davenport Line.
Edgewood, July 3.—Samuel Brink, a section hand, was killed near this place early this morning. About 4 o’clock the men started on the hand car to run over the section, after which work was to be suspended, and they were to have a holiday. One mile east of town, in a deep cut, they encountered an extra freight train, running at a high rate of speed. The men jumped from the handcar, which they also endeavored to lift from the track. The train was upon them immediately and while the rest escaped uninjured, Brink was killed instantly, his skull being frightfully crushed. Deceased was married only ten months ago. He and his wife had planned to attend the celebration at Manchester today, everything being in readiness when he should return from his early inspection of the track. It was a sad ending of their plans and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to Mrs. Brink in her affliction.
