Elkader Register, Thur., 16 May 1901.

A very sad accident and death happened to August, the ten year old son of Andrew Benson and wife of Forestville, last Wednesday morning about seven o'clock. It seems that the boy and his father and Andrew Jr., were grubbing and trimming a large tree which stood in sight of the house. As the tree was about ready to fall the father called to August to run away. Instead of running from the tree he ran in the direction the tree fell, and was killed almost instantly. A large hole was knocked in his skull, besides one arm and one leg were broken. This is the second sad accident which has happened to the family in less than a year. Last fall Andrew Jr. had one of his hands shot off, and now the death of this boy about prostrates the family with grief.

August Edward, youngest son of Aug. and Annie Benson of Forestville, was born May 6th, 1891 and died May 8th, 1901. August has many friends who will indeed miss him. What seems so hard to the parents is the way it happened - but such is life - we know not when we may be called to the other shore, but when we are, let us hope we may be as well prepared as August was to meet our Savior. God knows best when he bids the little children to come unto Him. He leaves to mourn his death a kind and loving father and mother, four sisters and three brothers, beside other relatives and friends. The funeral service which was held at the home Friday morning, at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. W. A. Gibbons, was largely attended. The remains were laid to rest in the Forestville cemetery.

"August, you are gone forever
From this world of sin and pain,
Closed your eyes on earth forever,
Ne'er to open wide again.

Weep not father and mother,
keep up courage,
For his cares on earth are e'er,
He'll be waiting there to greet you
On that bright eternal shore.

Farewell dear brothers and sisters,
I cannot be with you more.
Weep not dear ones in sadness,
For I have only gone before.

Tho' our heart with grief seems laden,
When loved ones from us have gone,
God alone can heal our sorrow,
Farewell, August, life is done."

A Friend.
