COLESBURG, Iowa - Raymond H. Arens, 87, of Colesburg, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colesburg, with the Rev. John Friederick officiating. Burial will be in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Petersburg. Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the church. The Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1917, on a farm west of Petersburg, son of J. Frank and Anna E. (Kroeger) Arens. He attended Ss. Peter & Paul School, Petersburg.

Ray was involved in farming all of his life, doing a lot of custom farming and running his own machine shop. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing.

He and his mother took in and raised Jerome and Alfred Meyers, his sister Frances' two young sons, upon her death.

Surviving are five nephews, Jerome (Laura Lea) Meyers, of Aurora, Alfred (Janice) Meyers, of Worthington, and Marvin (Sis), Frank (Lois) and Aloysius (Carol) Kramer, all of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Frances Meyers; a half-sister, Marie Overmann-Kramer; a nephew, Andrew Kramer; and two nieces, Doris Kramer and Ruth Ritter.
