Harold L. Reth 1919-2004

Harold L. Reth, 85, of Hopkinton, died Monday morning, Oct. 4, 2004, in his home following a sudden illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Manchester United Methodist Church, Manchester, by the Rev. Roger Henry and the Rev. Julie May. Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. today at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.

Harold was born the son of William F. and Logina (Meiners) Reth on Feb. 15, 1919, in Oneida. He received his education in rural schools. On Feb. 23, 1941, Harold was united in marriage to Alberta Cooksley at the United Methodist Church in Earlville. The couple had a partnership in farming for more than 60 years in the Delhi and Hopkinton area.

Harold was involved in church and community organizations for many years. He loved farming and died in the midst of harvesting another wonderful crop with his sons.

Harold is survived by three daughters, Marie (Gerald) Blumhagen of Castalia, Wilma (Louie) Parsons of Hopkinton, Bertha (Bob) Tribuno of Cedar Rapids; four sons, Virgil (Joan) Reth and Danny (Julie) Reth, both of Delhi, Harold C. (Laura) Reth and Randy (Diane) Reth, both of Hopkinton; one daughter-in-law, Marlene Reth of Manchester; 27 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, William, Lloyd, Earl and Melvin Reth; three sisters, Viola Reth, Verna Euwer and Irene Curtis; and one brother-in-law, Gilbert Cooksley.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, William and Logina Reth; his wife, Alberta Reth in 2003; two sons, Donnie Reth in 2001 and Glen Reth in 1965; one son-in-law, Herb Bishop in 1981; one grandson, Carter Reth in 1997; one great-grandson, Matthew Atteberry in 2004; and two sisters.
