Walter John Burke was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Earlville, Iowa, to William and Hazel (Baskerville) Burke. Bud died at the Good Neighbor Home Friday, May 10, 2013. He was 90 years of age.

He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from Earlville High School. Bud farmed near Earlville and then became an over-the-road truck driver. Bud was united in marriage to Deloris Williams in 1970. Together they resided at Lake Delhi. Bud continued driving truck, but with Manson Trucking in Cedar Rapids. In 1982, Bud became a CDL instructor at Kirkwood until 1994 when he retired. He was a proud member of Teamsters Union Local 238.

Bud loved spending time with his family and friends and was a NASCAR fan. He enjoyed spending his days traveling around the Manchester area making several stops to visit and keep up on local happenings. Bud would supervise daily the installation of the Greeley windmills.

Survivors include his four children, Samantha Wasta-Papadopoulous of San Rafael, Calif., Denny (Joy) Burke of Cedar Rapids, Johnnie (Kelly) Burke of Robins and Graig (Hollie) Burke of Cedar Rapids; five stepchildren, Irven Riley of Manchester, Herbert (Bobbi) Nuttall of Robins, Ga., Lois (Brady) Bryant of Dows, Alisa Robinson of Earlville and Krista (Mark) Nuttall of Manchester; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Amy Sams of St. Petersburg, Fla., Dot Hinman of Marion and Donald Burke of Hancock, Wis.; and a sister-in-law, Velma Burke of Strawberry Point.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris in 2012; a stepson, Tom Riley; two brothers, Loren and Robert; and his parents.

Bud's family would like to extend many thank you's to the staff of the Good Neighbor Home and Regional Medical Center dialysis unit especially, Wendy.

Funeral service: 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home and Crematory in Manchester, by the Rev. Mary Green. Friends may call after 9 a.m. until service time May 18 at the funeral home. Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.
