OBITUARY - GLENN CLINTON REED
The Lamoni Chronicle, Lamoni, IA, Thurs, 1/16/2003, page 4

Glenn Clinton Reed, age 93, formerly of Davis City, Iowa, was born September 12, 1909 at Lamoni, Iowa and died January 11, 2003 at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. Glenn was the son of Earl Arthur and Essie Gladys (Boyer) Reed.

Glenn married Doris Melita Hazen, February 21, 1950 at Troy, Kansas. They lived on a farm near Andover, Missouri before moving to Davis City in 1959. Glenn and Doris lived at Terrace Park in Leon for one year before moving into the Lamoni Nursing Home in September, 2002.

Glenn did many things throughout his lifetime--he was a jack-of-all-trades. He farmed, hauled grain and coal, crushed cars, among other things. He had a big heart and always welcomed family, friends and strangers. When working as a mechanic, he might take in a family who had stopped for repairs, offering money if needed or offering his home for food or a place to stay.

Glenn always enjoyed his family--children and grandchildren--around him. An important event of the year was the Reed reunion and Glenn would say--"everyone be there!"

Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl and Essie Reed; 3 children, Dorothy, Rex and Jimmy Reed; 4 grandchildren; and brother Kenneth Reed.

Survivors include his wife Doris Reed of Lamoni; 7 children, Ron Reed and wife Vickie of Davis City, Bob Reed and wife Dee of Davis City, Twyla Jean Harp-Smith and husband Tom of Greenfield, South Carolina, Glenn B. Reed of Lamoni, Donald Reed and wife Verna of Shannon City, Iowa, Eldon Reed of Des Moines and Peggy Irene Wicker and husband Carroll of Kingman, Arizona; 51 grandchildren, 84 great grandchildren; 20 great, great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Joyce Reed of Davis City, sister Peggy Martin of South Gate, California, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa with Rev. Larry Owens officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been established by the family.
