08 Jan 1937 in Grand River, Decatur County, Iowa, at the age of 74 Years, 9 Months, 16 Days, Mary Ann Evans passed away.

The former Mary Ann Hewlett was born on a farm in North Fork,Delaware County, Iowa, on March 19,1862 to Mary Ann Binning and William Hewlett. She was raised by her mothers', 2nd husband William Anstey. Her father William Hewlett dying when she was only 8 months of age.

By 1875 the family moved to Decatur County, Iowa, and here she met and married William Walter Evans.
Mary Ann Hewlett Evans was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather William Anstey, her devoted husband of 55 years William Walter Evans, her dear daughter, Edith Violet Evans Frost, grandson Ralph Harlan Evans, great granddaughter Merna Faye Sutherland, sisters: Sarah Jane Hewlett, "Annie" Hewlett Harris, and a infant sister who died in 1859,Tamer A Hewlett ,brothers: John & Richard Hewlett.

Mary Ann Hewlett Evans, was a devoted wife, loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother & great grandmother.

Those left to honor her memory are her son and daughter-in-law Edwin Arthur & Annah
(Jimmerson) Evans, son -in-law, Lawrence Matthew Frost, granddaughter, Mertie Frost
Sutherland, grandson Garel Wayne Evans, 3 great granddaughters, 2 half brothers Fred
& William Anstey and half sister Minnie May Anstey Millard.

Additional information: September 1, 1881, Walter was married to Mary Ann Hewlett, the daughter of William and Mary Ann (Binning) Hewlett. She was born in Delaware County March 19, 1862, and came to Grand River in 1876 with her parents. Walter and Mary Ann bought a farm 2 miles southwest of Grand River, where they raised 2 children, Edith and Arthur. They attended Elk Union School No. 4. In 1900, they purchased a 240 acre farm from Henry Binning, 6 miles southeast of Grand River, where they spent their later years. He was the Superintendent of Maple Grove Sunday School for 20 years before his passing away on January 4, 1936. Funeral services were held at the Maple Grove Church January 6, 1936, by H. O. Tuttle of Van Wert. His mortal remains were borne to their final resting place in the Funktown (Oak Hill) Cemetery by 6 young men, members of his Sunday School class. Mary Ann died on January 8, 1937.
