Obituary ~ Beulah Mae (Clawson) Thomas
March 31, 1922 - April 25, 2018

Beulah Mae Thomas, daughter of Carl and Ruby (Crees) Clawson, was born March 31, 1922, near Decatur, Iowa. She died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in Leon, Iowa at the age of 96 years.

Beulah graduated from Leon High School in Leon, Iowa in 1940. She taught rural school for six years and took classes at Simpson College during her teaching career. In 1946, she married Maurice Thomas. To this union, two children were born, Diana and Eldon. Later Beulah started working as an inspector at O’Bryan Brothers Lingerie factory in Leon for what turned into a 23˝ year career.

She was a longtime member of the Decatur United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. Beulah loved to sew, mainly quilts, raise flowers and a garden, and cook, especially pies. In later years Beulah enjoyed volunteering at the Decatur County Museum. She belonged to the Retired Teachers Association, Get-Together Club, and was also a librarian at South School.

Preceding Beulah in death were her parents; parents-in-law, Alva and Grace Thomas; husband, Maurice in 1972, leaving her a widow for many, many years; brothers-in-law, Max Albaugh, Raymond Nelson, and Dean Thomas and wife, Virginia; and son, Eldon Thomas in 2015.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Diana Nigon and husband, Mark of Choteau, Montana; daughter-in-law, Colleen McCombs Thomas of Albia, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeremy & Renee Nigon, Michelle & Mike Staber, Alicia Nigon, Barbara & Ed Ford, and Keri Thomas; great grandchildren, Erin and Alex Ford, Sahale and Mauraia Nigon, and Carter Staber; sister, Elaine Albaugh of Leon; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was so proud of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as was evident by all the photos of them she enjoyed in her home and as she always remembered them on their birthdays.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018, with Rev. Rick Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Central Decatur South Elementary School Library in Beulah’s memory.

Slade-O'Donnel Funeral Home of Leon is in charge of arrangements.
