Leon, Decatur County, IowaJoyce Elaine White, age 87, of Lamoni, Iowa, the fourteenth child of Homer and Edith (Lalone) Harvey, was born June 1, 1930, in Jenison, Michigan. She died at Lamoni Specialty Care in Lamoni on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.
Joyce was raised in Michigan and graduated from high school in Grand Rapids in 1948. She and Marshall Peter White were united in marriage on September 9, 1949, in Grand Rapids. They were blessed with three children, Julie, Ronald, and Kevin. After the kids were raised the couple lived in New Hampshire for six years from 1982 until 1988. They moved back to Grand Rapids and retired. In 2008, Julie brought them to Lamoni to be closer to her as their needs increased. In June of 2011, Joyce was diagnosed with cancer. In May of 2015, she moved to Lamoni Specialty Care.
Throughout her life, Joyce was a member of the Community of Christ Church. She was a wife, mother, and homemaker to her family and loved working in her vegetable and flower garden. As a child, they always had a large garden and chickens for eggs to feed her parents and her siblings.
Preceding her in death were her parents and fourteen siblings.
Survivors include her children, Julie and her husband, Norman Preusch of Lamoni, Ronald and his wife, Barbara White of Jenison, Michigan, and Kevin and his wife, Gayle White of Monroe, Michigan; four grandchildren, Adam and his wife, Jenny White, Aaron Preusch, Abbie and her husband, Grant Koster, and Alex, and his wife, Amanda White; five great grandchildren, Ashton, Kendall, Brodie, Camryn, and Brooke, plus one on the way; brother-in-law, Frank Steinke of Grand Rapids, Michigan; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held in Michigan at a later date.
