Jack Edwin Trowbridge, age 70, the son of Forrest Edwin and Myrtle Pauline (Blankenberg), was born June 25, 1947, in Decatur, Illinois. He left this life suddenly on Friday, March 23, 2018, at his rural Decatur, Iowa home.

Jack grew up in Decatur, Illinois until his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when he was a teenager. He attended high school there. He served ten years in the United States Army from December of 1967, until October of 1977, as an airplane mechanic. He spent one year in Vietnam, from April 1969, until April 1970. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service from April 1979, until June of 2002, in Albuquerque. He was a volunteer fireman/EMT for 20 years, serving as the Chief of Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years, averaging 700 calls per year.

Jack was married to Terri Shaw and became father of two children, Kristi and Scott. On January 17, 1987, Jack married Evangelene “Evie” Kaye Smith in New Mexico. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage. In 2002, after retirement he and Evie bought some land south of Decatur, Iowa. With the help of Bill Craig, Jack built a home for them and their Belgian draft horses. Jack loved to work with the horses. He hitched up the team for hayrides, parties, weddings, and parades. He and Evie raised pumpkins and were bee keepers processing their honey. They sold the fruits of their labor at the Leon and Lamoni Farmer’s Markets. Jack drove a school bus for the southeast area of Central Decatur Schools for many years and was still currently employed there.

Jack was an active member of the Trinity Christian Church west of Decatur. He also was a member of the Cowl-Scott American Legion and served as treasurer for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his aunt, Wilma Shulke.

Survivors include his wife, Evie Trowbridge of Decatur, Iowa; daughter, Kristi Murphy and husband, Chris, of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Scott Trowbridge of Juneau, Alaska; three grandchildren; brother, Tom Trowbridge and wife, Linda, of Edgecomb, Maine; brother-in-law, Gene Smith and wife, Loretta, of Kiantone, New York; special friends from New Mexico, Reed and April Jackson and their seven children; all his school bus “grandkids”; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Christian Church west of Decatur, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, with Pastor Terry D. Roberts officiating. The committal service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter, Iowa. Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
