Thursday, March 15, 2018Lois Irene Hullinger, age 79, of Davis City, Iowa was born at home on January 15, 1939, to Emmett Charles and Madolyn Jean (Hatcher) Craig, at Davis City, Iowa. She passed away in the house built in 1872, by her great, great grandfather, which was her home for over fifty years.
Lois grew up in Decatur County, Iowa and graduated from Leon High School in 1957. She met Douglas Eugene Hullinger and after six months of dating, they were married on June 2, 1957, in the Loving Chapel United Methodist Church in Leon. They started out living on a farm northwest of Davis City without running water. After eight years, they moved into Davis City to her current home. They were blessed with four children, Kevin, Dana, Stacia, and Troy. Lois and Doug were married 57 years at the time of his death in 2014.
Lois kept busy raising the children while Doug was away driving the truck or farming. When they were older, she became active in the community and the Davis City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Davis City City Council, Community Betterment Committee, and a bowling league. She also enjoyed golfing in her earlier years. In more recent years, Lois and Doug were able to travel together seeing the United States and Europe. She was always very supportive of her family and helped them in any way she could.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Emmett Craig and Madolyn (Hatcher) Bottoms; husband, Doug Hullinger; and her two brothers-in-law, Richard McKern and Ray Shirley.
Survivors include her children, Kevin and Jan Hullinger of Davis City, their children, Laci & Mark Erke and sons, Barrett and Drake, of Leon and Logan Hullinger of Davis City; Dana and Richard Baumli of Barnard, Missouri, their children, Wyatt Dunbar and his children, Cayden and Caylor, of Maryville, Missouri, Andria Rush, her children, Jaxon, Alison, Tate, and Jenna of Grant City, Missouri; Stacia Hullinger of Des Moines, Iowa, her children, Ashlyn & Adam Millang, their children, Hadley, Beckett, Harper, and Keaton of Prairie City, Iowa, Brett Hewlett and son, Wesley of Grand Junction, Colorado, Lyndi Yoder and fiancé, Adam Donovan of Ames, Iowa, and Chloe Yoder and daughter, Claire of Des Moines; and Troy Hullinger of Davis City, his children, Jordan Hullinger, Jascy Hullinger and son, Ronan, Jentri Hullinger, and twins, Trey and Tyke Hullinger, all of Davis City; sisters, Roberta McKern of Des Moines and Joyce Shirley of Winnsboro, Louisiana; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
