Myrtle May White, age 88, the daughter of Aaron and Ruby May (Prever) Dyke, was born July 6, 1929, in Ottumwa, Iowa. She died at Lamoni Specialty Care in Lamoni, Iowa on January 5, 2018.

Myrtle grew up and attended school in Ottumwa. She then worked as a cook in various restaurants and nursing homes. She also did childcare. She met her husband, Charles Alfred Danner, Sr. and they were married and had Charles, Jr. “Chuck”, Patricia, and Richard “Dick”. On January 21, 1954, she married Lester John White, Sr. in Kirksville, Missouri. The family included the two of them, her three children and his three children, Maxine, Phyllis, and Sue. Together, they had Lester Jr., Jennie, and Penny.

Myrtle lived in Garden Grove, Iowa for near 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, making crafts, and grocery shopping. She owned and operated a candy shop, was a member of the Garden Grove American Legion Auxiliary, and did other volunteer work. She loved to be involved with children. While at Lamoni Specialty Care she and another resident raised money for Alzheimer’s research.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Lester White in 1998; son, Charles; daughter, Phyllis; grandchildren, Amanda Deaton, Billy Gene Clark, and Wilford Dyke; and siblings, Fairy Dell, Helen Edgington, Frances Moore, Bill Dyke, Jim Dyke, Art Dyke, Wilford Dyke, and Joseph “Pete” Dyke.

Survivors include her children, Patricia Deaton of Osceola, Iowa, Dick Danner of Florida, Lester White, Jr. and wife, Juanita, of Garden Grove, Jennie Johnson and husband, David, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Penny Hawk and husband, Carl, of Garden Grove; stepchildren, Maxine Herbst of Artesia, California and Sue Shirley of Ottumwa; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several great, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, with David Johnson and Rev. Johnny Ripley officiating. Interment will be made at Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.

Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.
