Graydon George Griffin, the son of James Arthur and Daisy M. Griffin, was born November 23, 1912 in Mercer County, Missouri. He departed this life at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on May 3, 2000.

As a child the family lived in Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, and Iowa. At the young age of 4 an accident caused the loss of an arm. He never let this interfere in any activity he attempted to do.

Graydon graduated from Leon High School and then attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri.

As a young man Graydon accepted Christ as his Savior at the Franklin Church of Brethren. He was a faithful, active member of the Decatur Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Graydon and Mary Katherine Allard were united in marriage on June 7, 1944. One daughter, Kay, was born to this union. Their entire married life was spent in Decatur County, Iowa farming. They then returned to Leon less than two years ago.

Graydon was a township accessor for many years, served on the Decatur County Board of Supervisors, and also on the Clarke County REA Board for several years.

Graydon loved music and sang many years in various quartets and with the Decatur United Methodist Church choir. The grandchildren and great grandkids were a joy to him; he always had time to listen to whatever they had to visit about.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant brothers Brian and Chester; sister Inez Rowan; and brother Leroy Griffin.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Katherine Griffin of Leon; daughter Kay Hill and husband Ron of Leon; grandchildren: Nancy Hill and husband Steve of Osceola; Sandi Hill of Des Moines, Iowa; Bill Hill of Leon; and Janet Hill of West Des Moines, Iowa; great grandchildren: Blaine and Blair Hill; Clayton Hill; and Kyle and Kaley Byrd; sisters: Margaret Crees and Louanna Alley and husband Claude, all of Leon; sister-in-law Fern Priest of Leon; brother-in-law Jim Allard and wife Eileen of Whitney, Texas; special nephew Larry Griffin and family of Grand River, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2000, Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa, with the Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Ruth Scott accompanied the Decatur United Methodist Church choir with musical selections "My Sheep Know My Voice" and "Precious Memories". Congressional hymn was "God Be With You."
