Earold Dean Parmer, age 60, of Van Wert, Iowa, the son of Harold “Bud” Burton Parmer and Thelma (Roberts) Parmer, was born in Knoxville, Iowa on June 17, 1957. He died at his home on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

Dean, as he was known, attended Clarke Community Schools. After completing school Dean married his first wife, Brenda Ingram, on June 14, 1980. To this union, they were blessed with a baby girl, Naomi Jean Parmer. Dean later married his second wife, Cynthia (Steele) Bassett on September 19, 1987. With this marriage three more children were added to the family, Gregory, Holly, and Christopher Bassett.

He worked as a welder, explosive engineer, correctional officer, maintenance mechanic, and was an all around “handy man”. Dean built his and Cindy’s home and has remodeled many houses for others. Dean enjoyed cooking, fishing, landscaping, carpentry, going for a country drive with his wife on a Sunday afternoon, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was known for surprising his grandchildren with donuts on an early morning. Occasionally, you could find Dean in his recliner watching a good western movie. Dean’s passion was deer hunting with his family and the Luce’s. He was an exceptional hunter, and this was a trait he passed down to his grandsons, Riley and Blake.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother-in-law, Dennis Lewis; and nephew, John Lewis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cindy Parmer of Van Wert, Iowa; daughter, Naomi Jones and companion, Chris Meador, of Osceola, Iowa; stepchildren, Gregory and Amy Bassett of Waukee, Iowa, Holly and Jason Parker of Urbandale, Iowa, and Christopher Bassett and companion, Shana Palmer, of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers, Eddie and Ellen Parmer of Van Wert, Ervin “Bubby” and Vickie Parmer of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Everett and Julie Parmer of Van Wert; sisters, Barbara and Karl Hornef of Van Wert and Carolyn Lewis of Van Wert; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; parents-in-law, Bud and Gloria Steele of Leon, Iowa; sister-in-law, Christine McDonald and husband, Pat, of Pattonsburg, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
